Brief introduction:

“This paper introduces a methodology for residential daily load profile generation considering microgrid energy management system (EMS) design. The envisioned EMS considers power flow exchange and power quality issues. For this purpose, static ZIP load models and equivalent circuit model of residential loads taken from literature are implemented as circuit models. This latter is aggregated and simulated using DSIM software to generate the daily load profile according to the end-user activity.”

Aggregate and simulate equivalent circuit model of residential loads using DSIM

This paper generates residential daily load profile by equivalent circuit load model. It demonstrates the DSIM schematic of switching on/off the loads based on each user activity to perform load profile generation. The simulations of ZIP load model and equivalent circuit load models are performed. DSIM shows “the overall load active powers of both models, and the corresponding drawn current waveforms. Both simulated active powers are almost identical.”

“DSIM offers interesting simulation speed compared to existing simulation software. Its ability to simultaneously simulate large converter and commute switch transients makes it ideal for large scale power converter systems, microgrids and systems that require intensive calculations.”
